Visit Grant-Aided Places

We provide grants to help conserve historic places throughout England. These include listed buildings, scheduled monuments and designed landscapes. Many grant-aided places open to the public as a condition of their grant.

The extent of public access varies from one property to another. Some are open throughout the year, some on certain days only, and others provide public access only by prior arrangement. In some cases access may be limited to certain parts of the building or site.

Currently closed for refurbishment, but from July 2024 the courtyard is open to the public Monday to Saturday, 7am to 5pm. Evening and weekend opening hours will be subject to review and extension once the works are complete. We have been providing regular open days and site tours during the building works and these will continue until the works are complete.

Commissioner's House is accessible for those who wish to hire the space for hospitality purposes including weddings, celebrations, business meetings etc. The Historic Dockyard does arrange wider public access tours at different points and details of these can be found on our website when available. The gardens to Commissioner's House are open to visitors from February to November and entry is included within the wider admission to The Historic Dockyard Chatham.

The museum is open on Wednesday and Friday 11am to 3pm. We are also open some Bank Holiday Mondays and Saturdays in school holidays. Tours and visits outside these hours can be booked through the curator.
