Archaeological Advice
Archaeology Advisors provide advice to the London Boroughs, in accordance with the National Planning Policy Framework and Historic Environment Planning Practice Guide, the London Plan and Borough planning policies.
They advise planners, developers, archaeologists and local people on the impact of proposed development on archaeological assets. Advisors monitor the quality of archaeological work undertaken by contractors and consultants.

Science Advisor
The Regional Science Advisor provides guidance on all aspects of archaeological science in London, from dating techniques to the impact of piled foundations. This includes organising training days for the archaeological community.

Inspector of Ancient Monuments
Some monuments are recognised as being of national or even international importance and protected under the Ancient Monuments and Areas Act 1979. It is a legal requirement to obtain consent for any works that affect scheduled ancient monuments.
