Eleanor Cross, Geddington, Northamptonshire
Children playing around the Eleanor Cross in Geddington, with the Star Inn visible beyond. The Eleanor Cross was put up by Edward I in memory of his wife Eleanor of Castille. There were 12 crosses originally to mark the resting places of Queen Eleanor's funeral procession during it's journey from Lincoln to Westminster Abbey after her death in 1290. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).
