About the Visible in Stone project
Research commissioned by Historic England and London Metropolitan University (LondonMet) has shed light on women's involvement in the built environment during a century of social change from 1850-1950.
Dr Cheryl Law, author of ‘Suffrage and Power: The Women's Movement 1918-1928’ (1997) and ‘Women, A Modern Political Dictionary’ (2000), was commissioned to research the collections, identify key themes and write the web pages.
The research looked at the social history of the period in the Women's Library and TUC Library Collections and the records of historic buildings available in the Historic England Archive.
