RCHME survey staff carried out a study of the houses of the gentry in 1991. The publication 'Houses of the Gentry 1480-1680' published in 1999, was written by Nicholas Cooper for the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Architecture in association with English Heritage. The series comprises six buildings files, circa 1000 other files which have not be catalogued, and circa 300 publication drawings. The uncatalogued files include research documents, correspondence and notes and are arranged in boxes as follows:

The uncatalogued files were acquired from Survey of London offices in 2002.
